Penn State women’s hockey: Robert Morris rolls over Nittany Lions

Penn State dropped the first game of a key weekend series as Robert Morris rolled to a 4-1 romp at Pegula Ice Arena.

The Nittany Lions (15-14-4 overall, 9-8-2 league) entered the series tied with Syracuse for second in the CHA with 20 points. Penn State owns the tiebreaker edge with the Orange, which defeated RIT on Friday. If Penn State is swept, it could drop as low as the No. 4 seed for the CHA tournament.

Robert Morris (9-17-5, 7-8-4) moved within two points of the Nittany Lions with a dominant win Friday. The Colonials took control in the first period with goals from Rebecca Vint and Rikki Meilleur (power play) to lead 2-0.

Vint’s 10th goal of the season was the only score in the second period. Jessica Gazzola scored early in the fourth period to make it 4-0.

Penn State got on the board with 3:41 left as Bella Sutton scored her fifth of the season on an assist from Laura Bowman.

The Nittany Lions outshot Robert Morris 34-22. Celine Whitlinger had 18 saves for Penn State, while Jessica Dodds had 33 for the Colonials.

The two teams meet again at noon Saturday.
