Penn State women’s hockey: Nittany Lions drop regular season finale

Penn State was held scoreless over the final two periods as Robert Morris won 4-1 for the second consecutive afternoon at Pegula Ice Arena on Saturday.

The loss guaranteed that the Nittany Lions (15-15-4 overall, 9-9-2 league) would get the No. 3 seed in the College Hockey America Tournament. Penn State tied with Robert Morris (11-17-5, 8-8-4) but won a tiebreaker. The Nittany Lions will host No. 6 RIT in a best-of-three series, which begins Friday, in the opening round of the tourney.

Penn State got off to a good start as Caitlin Reilly scored 51/2 minutes into the opening period on an assist from Hannah Bramm.

From there, the contest belonged to the Colonials, who scored a pair of short-handed goals and a pair on the power play. Rebecca Vint (first period) and Mikaela Lowater (third period) had the short-handed tallies, while Amanda Pantaleo and Mackenzie Johnston scored with the advantage.

Robert Morris had a 37-25 edge in shots. Celine Whitlinger had 33 saves for Penn State.
