Nittany Lions boot Hoosiers in women's soccer

Freshman Mallory Weber scored twice as No. 4 Penn State netted three goals in a six-minute stretch to pull away from Indiana 5-2 at Jeffrey Field on Sunday.

With the score tied at 2-2, Penn State (12-2 overall, 6-0 Big Ten) took control late in the game. Weber’s first goal in the 72nd minute came on a thru ball from Christine Nairn that ended up near the end line. Weber found the far post netting to put Penn State up 3-2. Her second goal was similar as Nairn played another thru ball ahead and tapped it in for her eighth goal of the season.

The Nittany Lions added one more insurance goal. freshman Raquel Rodriguez, the Big Ten assists leader, got another one on a corner kick as she found Maddy Evans near the penalty kick mark. Evans beat Indians keeper Sarah Stone to give Penn State the 5-2 lead.

Nairn scored her 11th goal of the season five minutes into the contest on an assist from Emily Hurd. Taylor Schram added a first-half score on another assists from Hurd.

Orianica Velasquez and Lisa Nouanesengsy scored for the Hoosiers (6-7, 1-5). Penn State keeper Erin McNulty had two saves.

Penn State returns to action Friday as it travels to Nebraska for an 8 p.m. matchup with the Cornuskers.
