Penn State women’s soccer: Nittany Lions shut out Indiana

No. 8 Penn State completed a weekend sweep of games in the Hoosier State with a 3-0 blanking on Indiana on Sunday.

“Anytime you’re on the road for back-to-back Big Ten games, to come out 2-0 is a feat,” said Nittany Lion coach Erica Walsh, whose team (6-1 overall, 2-0 Big Ten) knocked off Purdue 1-0 on Friday. “It was a weekend that highlighted our strengths out wide.”

Emily Hurd opened the scoring with an usassisted goal 101/2 minutes into the game. The score stayed that way until Raquel Rodriguez scored off an assist from Mallory Webber 11 minutes into the second half. Mallory Peterson capped the scoring with a header, her first goal since 2012, on a cross from Haleigh Echard.

Indiana (4-4, 0-2) had seven shots and Penn State goalie Britt Eckerstrom had one save in the shutout.

The Nittany Lions next host Ohio State at 6 p.m. Friday at Jeffrey Field.
