Mikey Minutillo scored two goals to lead the No. 10 Penn State men’s soccer team to a 3-0 win over Saint Francis at Jeffrey Field on Tuesday night.
The win marked the fifth shutout for the Nittany Lions (5-0-1) this season. It was goalkeeper Andrew Wolverton’s career 27th shutout, moving him two away from the Penn State record.
Minutillo gave the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute off an assist from Drew Klingenberg. Minutillo added to the lead in the second half, scoring from eight yards out on a pass by Riley Grant in the 53rd minute. It accounted for the first point in Grant’s Penn State career.
“I think Mikey Minutillo changed the game so much for us tonight,” Penn State coach Bob Warming said. “Mikey was so caught up, and this is my fault, in posting up top that it ruined his game. Tonight he came back into the midfield a little bit and showed up in other places and they couldn’t find him and I thought that made a big difference in the game.”
Brandon Savino scored on a breakaway to make it 3-0 in the 54th minute.
The win was Warming’s 50th at Penn State.
