On a weekend in which Penn State is celebrating 50 years of women’s athletics, the women’s soccer team honored its alumni in the best way possible, thumping Ohio State 5-1 Friday night at Jeffrey Field.
Freshman Frannie Crouse led the speedy attack for the No. 8 Nittany Lions (7-1, 3-0 Big Ten) with a pair of goals, including being set up by Mallory Weber just 2:20 into the game.
Salina Williford, with her first career goal, Whitney Church and Raquel Rodriguez also found the net for Penn State, with Kori Chapic and Haleigh Echard earning assists.
Sydney Dudley spoiled the shutout with a goal 54 seconds into the second half for the Buckeyes (4-5, 1-2), as Britt Eckerstrom and Meghan Kaminski shared time in net, with Kaminski making one save. Penn State outshot Ohio State 14-4.
The Nittany Lions next host Bucknell on Tuesday.
