Penn State women’s soccer: Rutgers hands Nittany Lions first Big Ten loss

The No. 6 Penn State women’s soccer team saw its unbeaten start in Big Ten play come to an end Saturday with a 1-0 loss to No. 20 Rutgers at Jeffrey Field.

Rutgers midfielder Madison Tiernan found the back of the net at the 28:36 mark for the game’s lone goal. Both teams finished with 10 shots.

Scarlet Knights goalie Casey Murphy recorded three saves to keep Penn State (12-2-0, 7-1-0) off the board. Rutgers improved to 10-1-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the conference.

Penn State’s Britt Eckerstrom made one save.
