Penn State women’s soccer: Nittany Lions beat Wolverines, take over Big Ten lead

The Penn State women’s soccer team regained sole control of first place in the Big Ten on Thursday night.

Megan Schafer accounted for the only goal as the No. 11 Nittany Lions blanked the No. 24 Wolverines 1-0.

Mallory Weber and Emily Hurd set up Schafer’s fifth goal of the season, with the freshman forward taking a cross and finding the net inside the near post from 14 yards out at 26:31 of the first half.

Britt Eckerstrom made the lead stand out with nine saves for her sixth shutout of the season as the Nittany Lions (13-2, 8-1 Big Ten) moved a game ahead of the Wolverines (11-4, 7-2).

Penn State is back on the field visiting Michigan State on Sunday.
