Penn State women’s soccer: Nittany Lions beat Maryland to close regular season

The Penn State women’s soccer team wrapped up another successful regular season Thursday night with yet another victory.

Frannie Crouse accounted for the only goal while Britt Eckerstrom posted the Nittany Lions’ eighth shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory over Maryland at Jeffrey Field.

The sixth-ranked Big Ten champions (17-2, 12-1) earned their fifth straight win and will head to the conference tournament as the top seed next week at Purdue.

The lone goal was netted 24:42 into the contest, started by Megan Schafer making a quick pass near midfield to Maddie Elliston, who danced around a Terrapin before sending a long ball to Crouse. The freshman outran the Maryland defense to the ball and tipped the ball off keeper Rachelle Beanlands’ hand and off the post into the net.
