Penn State women’s soccer: Big Ten honors Nittany Lions

The best women’s soccer team in the Big Ten led the conference in postseason awards Tuesday.

On the heels of a 16th conference title, No. 6 Penn State was rewarded with Erica Walsh being named Coach of the Year, Whitney Church earning Defensive Player of the Year, Raquel Rodriguez grabbing Midfielder of the Year and Emily Ogle was the Freshman of the Year.

Walsh picked up her award for the third time in her career, while Church and Rodriguez each picked up their awards for the second time. The two players also grabbed first-team All-Big Ten honors.

Grabbing second-team All-Big Ten honors were Frannie Crouse, Emily Hurd, Kori Chapic and goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom.

Ogle, Crouse and Maddie Elliston each were named to the All-Freshman team, and Kindrah Kohne picked up the Sportsmanship Award.

Crouse also was named Big Ten co-Freshman of the Week on Monday.
