Loyola of Chicago holds off Penn State men’s volleyball

Defending national champion Loyola of Chicago held off No. 10 Penn State 28-26, 25-22, 28-26 Thursday night.

The No. 6 Ramblers rallied from 21-16 down in the third set to complete the sweep, hitting .329. The teams matched each other with 11.5 blocks.

Chris Nugent’s 12 kills led Penn State (1-2), but he had 14 hitting errors, and the Nittany Lions hit .172 as a team with 24 errors. Spencer Sauter and Matt Callaway each added nine kills, Callaway also had five blocks and hit .615, Taylor Hammond gave out 34 assists, and Sauter posted six digs.

Ricky Gevis’ 12 kills, and 10 each for Trevor Novotny and Cole Murray paced the Ramblers (2-2).

Penn State visits No. 9 Lewis on Saturday.
