Penn State wrestling’s Brody Teske enters transfer portal; Adam Busiello joins squad
A day after announcing Anthony Cassar and Kyle Conel were done for the season, Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson broke some more news.
During his weekly coaches radio show on Wednesday, Sanderson said that redshirt freshman 125-pounder Brody Teske has entered the transfer portal.
It has also been rumored that another 125-pounder, Adam Busiello, who originally committed to the Nittany Lions as a freshman in high school and later flipped to Arizona State, has joined the Nittany Lions after entering the transfer portal in October.
A Penn State spokesperson confirmed Wednesday that the rumors are true, and that Busiello is indeed a Nittany Lion.
The 125-pound weight class has seemed like a curse for the Nittany Lions ever since the departure of Nick Suriano. They haven’t had an All-American at the weight class since Nico Megaludis won a title in 2016.
Teske’s departure and Busiello’s arrival just adds to the intrigue of the weight class for Penn State.
Teske, who is a four-time Iowa state champion, leaves the program with a record of 11-4. He was 5-2 this season with losses to Arizona State’s Brandon Courtney and Central Michigan’s Drew Hildebrandt.
There was a lot of speculation about Teske last season about weight issues and health issues. He did compete in the Southern Scuffle and showed off what made him one of the top recruits in the country two years ago.
It is unknown where Teske is headed, but he could eventually end up right back home with Iowa as current 125-pound wrestler Spencer Lee only has one season left after this year.
Busiello is an intriguing story. As previously mentioned, he originally committed to Penn State as a ninth grader and went on to win four New York state titles.
In his senior year at Eastport-South Manor, he changed his mind to go to Arizona State. Busiello entered the transfer portal just before the 2019-2020 NCAA season got underway. It was speculated when he entered the portal, he was heading back to his original commitment.
