See where Penn State’s wrestlers are in Intermat rankings before Ohio State dual

The postseason is right around the corner for Penn State’s wrestling team, which gives the program an opportunity to win a fifth straight NCAA title.

On Tuesday, the weekly Intermat rankings and NWCA Top 25 poll were released, and the Nittany Lions saw no changes individually or as a team.

When it came to the Intermat rankings, Penn State still has its six No. 1 wrestlers in Luke Lilledahl (125 pounds), Shayne Van Ness (149), Mitchell Mesenbrink (165), Levi Haines (174), Rocco Welsh (184) and Josh Barr (197).

Marcus Blaze (133) and PJ Duke (157) remain in the top five of their respective weights, both at No. 4.

Braeden Davis (141) and Cole Mirasola (285) both remained No. 12 in their weights.

Ohio State’s Jesse Mendez (141) and Brandon Cannon (157), Illinois’ Lucas Byrd (133) and Iowa State’s Yonger Bastida (285) are the other No. 1 ranked wrestlers.

The Buckeyes will sport a lineup that has nine of their wrestlers ranked, as Cannon is out due to an injury.

When it comes to the NWCA Top 25, Penn State remained No. 1 after its drubbing of Michigan. The Nittany Lions host Ohio State on Friday, which will be a matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2.

The Big Ten has Nebraska (No. 5), Iowa (No. 7), Minnesota (No. 9), Michigan (No. 10), Illinois (No. 11), Rutgers (No. 14), Indiana (No. 20) and Wisconsin (No. 21) also ranked in the NWCA Top 25.
