3 State College athletes earns first-team honors in baseball, boys’ volleyball

A look at the recent honors three State College student-athletes received on Friday:

Baseball

State College’s Matt Tomczuk grabs conference honors

State College second baseman Matt Tomczuk has received first-team Mid Penn Conference Commonwealth honors from the division’s coaches.

Tomczuk is leading the team with a .429 batting average after the Little Lions’ 9-4 win over Altoona in the District 6 Class 6A championship game Friday. He has also scored nine runs and has driven in 12 runs.

State College will face McDowell in the PIAA subregional at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Bald Eagle Area.

Boys’ volleyball

2 Little Lions earn district honors

State College’s Joe McCracken and Quinn Williams both earned first-team District 6 Class 3A honors from the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association on Friday.

Altoona, the only other Class 3A team in the district, had four selections.
