Bellefonte softball paces area District 6 teams with 5 all-star selections

More than half of Bellefonte softball’s starting lineup made the District 6 Class 4A/5A/6A all-star team, and only one other softball team — Class 3A’s Cambria Heights — had more district selections.

The Lady Red Raiders boasted five overall selections on the district team, as all three all-star teams (A/2A, 3A and 4A/5A/6A) were released Monday evening. The Bellefonte girls chosen for the honor included pitcher Tara Baney, outfielder Mallorie Smith and infielders Rianna Trexler, Alexis Wetzler and Lissi Przybys.

Cambria Heights (3A) had six overall selections. Only three others — Mifflin County (4A/5A/6A), Conemaugh Valley (A/2A) and Mount Union (A/2A) — saw as many girls picked on their respective all-star teams as Bellefonte.

The Lady Raiders (18-4) once again dominated this season and earned the District 6 Class 4A championship with a 10-0, five-inning win over Somerset. They will face the No. 2 seed out of District 7 next Monday in the first round of the PIAA playoffs.

Although Bellefonte was the big area winner Monday night, Philipsburg-Osceola followed closely behind with four selections. State College and Bald Eagle Area also both had two apiece.

Here’s the breakdown by class and school:
