High school boys’ basketball: Philipsburg-Osceola hangs on against Huntingdon

The Philipsburg-Osceola boys’ basketball team held Huntingdon to four first-quarter points and withstood the Bearcats’ late run to earn a 50-49 Mountain League home victory Tuesday.

Eric Nartatez and Matt Carpin’s foul shooting helped the Mounties late in the game. Nartatez scored 20 points and went 8-for-8 from the foul line. Matt Caprin scored 18 points and went 8-for-10 from the line.

P-O led 27-15 at halftime. Huntingdon cut the deficit by scoring 24 points in the fourth quarter. Nate Gearhart led the Bearcats with 21 points.

“It was a good win,” P-O coach Dave McKnight said. “We played well in spurts and we just hung on at the end to get the win.”

The Mounties (2-7) visit Central on Friday.

Little Lions edge Cumberland Valley

STATE COLLEGE — State College edged out Cumberland Valley 56-55 on Tuesday.

The game was tied up at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but State College was able to fight their way through the final eight minutes and come out with a victory.

Kyle Kanaskie led the scoring for the Little Lions with 26 points, six of those coming from 3-pointers. Bryan Sekunda also chipped in a 3-pointer and scored 13 points.
