Tyrone didn’t give Philipsburg-Osceola a chance to stick around the District 6 Class AA girls basketball playoffs very long.
The Lady Golden Eagles raced to a 38-16 halftime lead and cruised from there to eliminate the Lady Mounties 71-46 in the opening round.
Sixth-seeded Tyrone (17-6) advances to Friday’s quarterfinals to face third-seeded Westmont Hilltop at site and time to be determined. Philipsburg-Osceola finished the season 10-13.
The Lady Golden Eagles beat the Lady Mounties twice during the regular season, winning 69-33 in the first game and 57-44 in the second.

The playoff game, Philipsburg-Osceola’s first in two seasons, resembled the first matchup. Tyrone grabbed a 17-8 lead after one quarter and extended the margin to 22 points by the half. The Lady Golden Eagles pushed the margin to 26 points (57-31) entering the final period.
Nicole Gripp led Tyrone’s balanced attack with 20 points. Gripp nailed four 3-pointers in the contest. Jordyn Swogger netted 17, while Finnley Christine (14) and Alex Brooks (12) also scored in double figures for the Lady Eagles.
Senior Briana Rusnak scored 15 points in her final game with the Lady Mounties. Alyssa Myers added 11 points. Haylee Hayward had eight points and Abby Showers netted seven.
