The skinny: The Red Raiders have only 29 boys on the roster, but with a variety of strengths and several talented, experienced returning athletes, Bellefonte figures to have a strong season. … Leading the returning group is Sean Gipson, who was 24 th in the 400-meter preliminaries at the PIAA Championships. … Distance group is led by Mitchell Smith, who will compete at Lock Haven this fall. … Other middle- and long-distance runners include Brett Finley, Christian Hopple, Andrew O’Donnell and Garrett Pensak. … Joining Gipson in the sprints are Bryce Steiner, Cody Walter, Michael O’Donnell and Dion Furfaro. … The hurdle group will be led by Matthew Swartz and Michael Trowbridge. … The jumpers include Gipson, Walter, Steiner and Michael O’Donnell. … Throwers, filled mostly by underclassmen, include Mitch Grasser, Matt Querns, Zach Dann, Nick Feather and Austin Ranck. … Newcomers Dillon Ault and Michael Covone take over at pole vault after the graduation loss of two-time state qualifier Quinn Eicher. … With a number of seniors to lead, the Raiders appear strong from 200 meters all the way to 3,200, along with the hurdles and 3,200 relay.

Coach Miller says: “On paper this is one of the strongest teams we have seen from Bellefonte in quite a few years. … Our boys have high expectations for the league as well as at the district championships. … It is our hope to be challenging for a Mountain League title, something that Bellefonte hasn’t had since 1983.”
