High school softball: Philipsburg-Osceola rallies for win over Penns Valley

Freshman Chelsea Henry earned her first career victory as unbeaten Philipsburg-Osceola rallied to a 4-1 softball victory against Penns Valley on Thursday.

Henry relieved starter Kate Burge and pitched three scoreless innings of relief. She allowed just one hit, struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Penns Valley (2-4) scored first in the fourth inning as Tangie Lyons belted a solo home run.

The Lady Mounties (6-0) broke through in the fifth. Haylee Hayward led off with a single. With one out, Megan Bainey singled to right field and a Penns Valley error on a relay throw allowed Hayward to score. With two outs, Haley Frank drilled an RBI double to give P-O the lead. Mackenzie Burge followed with an RBI double to make it 3-1.

In the sixth, Abby Showers singled and eventually scored on Bainey’s RBI single.

Madisyn Sharer had two of Penns Valley’s four hits. Maggie Lynch allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out two. Bainey and Frank had two hits each for the Lady Mounties.
