High school softball: Chambers’ blast caps Bellefonte’s comeback

Carly Chambers’ three-run home run capped a five-run rally in the top of the seventh inning as Bellefonte knocked off Penns Valley 6-4 in Mountain League softball action on Tuesday.

Penns Valley (9-10) had scored three times in the sixth to erase a 1-0 Bellefonte lead. Nicole Harbaugh had an RBI single and Mackenzie Ironside followed with a two-run single to put the Lady Rams ahead.

Bellefonte (10-8) began its rally with Alcia Allen’s one-out double. An error put two runners on for Erica DeVinney, who singled to make it 3-2.

Sarah Menna’s RBI single tied it before Chambers blasted her first career home run, lining an 0-2 pitch over the left field fence.

Penns Valley scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh, but Stevi Confer (10-4) closed out the win for the Lady Red Raiders.

“We had very few chances which is a credit to (Penns Valley’s) Maggie Lynch,” Bellefonte coacg Gregg Kohlhepp said. “It was a great pitcher’s duel. ... To be able to come back, down 3-1 and to see a bunch of kids stepping up, it was awesome for us.”

DeVinney, Menna and Erin Pugh each had two hits for Bellefonte. Morgan Royer had two hits for the Lady Rams.

Penns Valley will open the District 6 Class AA playoffs at Central on Thursday. The Lady Raiders travel to Central Mountain on Wednesday.
