PIAA playoffs: State College baseball team, Philipsburg-Osecola softball team back in action Monday

The Philipsburg-Osceola softball team and the State College baseball team will open PIAA playoff action Monday against a pair of third-place teams.

The District 6 champion Lady Mounties (21-1) will face the WPIAL’s Chartiers Houston In the PIAA Class AA playoffs at 7 p.m. Monday, anchoring a quadruple-header at Penn State’s Nittany Lion Softball Park.

District 6 Class AAA champ Hollidaysburg opens play against District 7 runner-up Ambridge at 12:30 p.m. District 6 Class A champ Claysburg-Kimmel faces Burgettstown, the third-place team in the WPIAL, at 2:30 p.m. District 6 Class AAAA champion Mifflin County then battled Cumberland Valley, the No. 3 finisher in District 3, at 5 p.m.

State College (16-6) draws JP McCaskey, the third-place finisher from District 3, in the opening PIAA Class AAAA baseball playoffs. The contest is slated for 4 p.m. at Hollidaysburg High School.
