High school tennis: Lady Little Lions net win in opener

Top-seeded Cathy Badding dropped just one game as she led the State College girls’ tennis team’s season-opening 5-0 rout of Susquehanna on Tuesday.

Badding rolled past Susquehanna’s Jennie Saylor 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Juliette Greer cruised 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 and No. 3 Caroline Witman won 6-4, 6-2 to complete the singles sweep.

The Lady Little Lions also dominated the doubles, dropping just three games in two matches. Caitlin McGlaughlin and Amy Poissant netted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Elizabeth Easterling and Tatum Stauffer teamed for a 6-1, 6-0 romp at No. 2.

State College’s 27 team members all played either in junior varsity or exhibition matches and each won.

“It was a great start for the girls,” said Lady Little Lion coach Jane Borden, whose squad travels to Northern York at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
