Bald Eagle Area survived a wild win over Central 58-54 on Friday night when Ryan Dyke’s only points of the night iced the victory.
Brandon Gettig drained a pair of free throws with 6.7 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 48 and force overtime. The Scarlet Dragons’ deseration shot at the buzzer was off the mark. After trading buckets, BEA had a one-point lead in the closing seconds when Dyke drove the lane, made a layup and drew a foul. He sank the ensuing free throw for the game’s final point.
“It was crazy back and forth,” Eagles coach Bill Butterworth said. “We were down by as many as 12 at one time. In the second half we said it was time to get after them, pressure them into turnovers, and we got back into it. It was a crazy, crazy place here.”
Gettig finished with a game-high 19 points while Bryan Greene netted 15 and Bryce Greene scored 11.
