Bellefonte rallied from an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit, but finished one point short in a 43-42 loss to Mifflinburg on Saturday in the consolation game of the Penns Valley Holiday Tournament.
Mitch Grasser drained three free throws with 18 seconds left to pull the Red Raiders (1-6) to within one point, and on the ensuing Wildcat possession, Tyler Kreger got a steal and the Raiders took a time out to set up a final play with 0.7 seconds left. Nick Leiter’s shot, however, bounced off the rim.
“We had a sluggish third quarter,” Bellefonte coach Darin Hazel said. “I’m proud of the way the kids responded in the fourth quarter. This year we’ve lost three tough games in the fourth quarter against tugh teams. The kids have been working their tails off.”
Grasser finished with 16 points and Evan Wian added nine for Bellefonte, and Andy Stover was named to the All-Tournament team.
