High school wrestling: Penn State recruits shine at Dapper Dan

Three Penn State wrestling recruits went unbeaten to highlight action at the annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic on Sunday as Team USA defeated Pennsylvania 25-16 at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse at the University of Pittsburgh.

At 170 pounds, three-time Texas champion Bo Nickal scored a 14-9 triumph over PIAA Class AA 182-pound champ Stephen Loiseau. Nickal, ranked second nationally with a 179-7 record, had a 5-1 edge in takedowns over Louiseua (154-26), who is headed to Drexel.

Three-time California champion Nick Nevills topped four-time PIAA champ Thomas Haines 5-3 in a battle of the nation’s top two heavyweights. Nevills (200-5), had two takedowns against Haines (174-5), who had orally committed to Penn State but opted to head to Ohio State after the Nittany Lions landed Nevills.

Three-time PIAA champion Jason Nolf (176-1) avenged an offseason loss to Oregon’s Tyler Berger (198-3) with an 8-5 win at 145. Nolf, of Kittaning, had three takedowns and a reversal against Berger, a Nebraska recruit, in the final match of the night
