High school boys’ volleyball: State College stumbles at tournament

State College was eliminated from the Bobcat Invitational after a pair of losses Saturday.

The Little Lions finished pool play with a 2-2 record, beating York Suburban and Freedom and falling to Holy Redeemer and Pennridge. They then fell in straight sets to Bishop Guilfoyle, and was eliminated 25-22 by Emmaus in the silver bracket.

“We had two more injuries today,” coach Kim-Li Kimel said. “That changed our lineup for the last two matches. Every time we take the court we hope to set a lineup and move forward, but we’re not there yet.”

The Little Lions (0-1) got 20 kills, 14 digs and two aces from Andrew Groves; 12 kills from Deniz Demirci; 10 kills each from Tyler Snyder and Clark Handel; three aces and three blocks from Handel; 57 assists, 19 digs and three blocks from Parker Tompson and 38 digs from Cameron Crow.
