Bald Eagle Area turned a sloppy start into a solid finish as the Eagles (1-1) earned their first win of the season 13-12 over Clearfield on Tuesday.

The Bison (0-2) took advantage of four BEA defensive mistakes in the first inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead. But the Eagles recovered as starting pitcher Colton Comly hung in while his offense began to come alive. The Eagles caught up with three runs in each of the first two innings and five more in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead. BEA picked up two insurance runs in the fifth that came in handy as Clearfield turned in a five-run sixth.

Brandon Gettig and Jordan Kobularcik each added a pair of RBIs for BEA while Ryan Guenot saved the game with a shutdown seventh inning.

“We dug oursevles an early hole giving up five runs in the first, mostly on four errors,” BEA coach Jim Gardner said. “We battled back and had quality at bats all the way though. Comly did a nice job of keeping composed out there through the errors and kept the ball around the plate and kept us in the game.”
