High school girls’ volleyball: Philipsburg-Osceola survives late in sets to spike Bald Eagle Area

Trailing late in two sets, Philipsburg-Osceola closed with a flourish in each of them to net a 26-24, 25-17, 25-21 girls’ volleyball win over Bald Eagle Area on Thursday.

The Lady Mounties trailed 24-21 in the first set, but ripped off five straight points. BEA also led 5-0 in that set.

After winning the second set, P-O trailed 20-16 in the third, but scored eight consecutive points to take control.

“With this young team we’re still trying to find our identity,” P-O coach Dave Eckberg said. “They never give up amd they’re finding ways to win”

“It’s all about closing out sets,” BEA coach Larry Campbell said. “Finishing up is the big deal for us right now.”

Sadie Granville had seven kills and McKendz Kephart added six for the Lady Mounties (6-2 overall, 3-0 Mountain League). McKenzie Burge dished out 25 assists, while Elizabeth Robertson made 13 digs. Mollie McGuire had three aces among her part in 13 service points.

Velanna Skripek led the Lady Eagles (1-3) with 13 kills. Chelsea Eisenhuth had six blocks. Katie Flick and Tylor Yarrison had 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Jessica Bressler added team-highs with 22 assists and four aces.
