High school girls’ tennis: State College blanks Hershey, remains unbeaten

State College concluded its Mid Penn season unbeaten with a 5-0 triumph over Hershey on Wednesday.

The Lady Little Lions (14-0) swept the singles with Yvonne Peters-Washington (6-0, 6-0), Lilijana Peters-Semak (7-6, 6-4) and Cathy Badding (6-3, 6-1) winning in straight sets. Each doubles match went three sets with the teams of Juliette Greer-Cassie Walter (7-6, 4-6, 6-0) and Elizabeth Easterling-Callan Glover (4-6, 6-3, 6-1) dominating in the deciding set.

“Yvonne and Cathy took charge of their singles matches early and never let up,” State College coach Jane Borden said. “In doubles, Callan and Elizabeth did a great job of making adjustments and executing shots to put us up 3-0 and secure the deciding match. Lilijana, Juliette and Cassie did a very nice job of staying focused and closing out their matches. It was a nice way to finish our league play this fall.”
