Madisen Paige’s penalty kick in double overtime was the deciding goal as Bellefonte outlasted Penns Valley 3-2 on Monday.
Morgan Brooks’ two goals had given the Lady Red Raiders a 2-0 lead before Penns Valley rallied midway through the second half. Destiny Andrus scored off an assist from Hailee Wingard to cut the margin in half and Alyssa Denger tied the game with 12 1/2 minutes left in regulation.
The contest stayed that way for the next 30 minutes until Paige’s game-winner.
“Bellefonte outplayed us early, but the girls did a nice job of staying in the game and making the comeback,” Penns Valley coach Jeff Smucker said. “We applied a lot of pressure the last 15 minutes of regulation but couldn't get off the good shot. Kylie Orndorf made a couple of fantastic saves in goal to keep it close.”
