Goalkeepers played a key role in Philipsburg-Osecola and Bald Eagle Area’s Mountain League contest on Saturday.

The Mounties’ Mitchell Winters and the Eagles’ Alex Boyer made a combined seven saves as the pair and their teams dueled to a 0-0 tie.

“Both teams had three really good opportunities,” BEA coach Jason Bair said. “My hat goes off to Boyer because he came up big for us and their keeper made two saves he needed to make.”

Winters had two while Boyer tallied five.

“We knew going into this game, whoever won would be Mountain League champs,” Bair said. “The tie actually helps us more than it helps them.”

With the tie, the Eagles hold a 1/2-game lead over P-O for the Mountain League crown. It sets up an important game for BEA on Monday when it squares off with Bellefonte.

Two scenarios can give the Eagles the Mountain League crown: a victory gives them the title outright; a tie means they share the crown with P-O. If BEA loses Monday, the Mounties are the league champs.
