High school boys basketball: Penns Valley uses fast start to drop St. Joseph’s

With three players scoring in double figures, Penns Valley boys’ basketball team improved to 6-1 on the season after dropping St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy 53-42 Monday night.

The Rams were paced by Zach Engle’s 14 points, Sean Beamesderfer’s 12 and Logan Pearce’s 11.

Stephen Beattie’s 19 points and Garrett Bastardi’s 12 paced the Wolves, who trailed 32-20 at halftime and were unable to rally.

“St Joe’s played with a lot of energy and gave us a great game,” Rams coach Terry Glunt said. “We were able to hold serve in the second half and come away with our sixth win.”
