High school girls basketball: Penns Valley defeats Bellefonte

Mackenzie Ironside scored 14 points to lead Penns Valley to a 55-22 victory over Bellefonte on Monday night.

The Lady Rams raced to a 23-7 lead in the first half and didn’t let up in the Ram Winter Jam.

“We missed early shots which lowered our confidence and we were left playing catch up,” said Bellefonte coach Adam Gearhart.

Sophomore point guard Kourtney Beamesderfer ended the game with nine points and three assists before leaving with an injury.

Mara Taminga’s seven points paced the Lady Red Raiders (1-6), while leading scorer Jess Book was held to four points.

“Kylie Orndorf played outstanding defense against Book, who is a player who can score 20-plus points any game.” Penns Valley coach Karen McCaffrey said.

Penns Valley (5-2) will play in the championship round ow at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Pine-Richland while Bellefonte will face Mifflinburg in the consolation round.
