High school boys’ basketball: Jones paces Bald Eagle Area to win over Punxsutawney

Jason Jones’ double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds help pace Bald Eagle Area to a 66-46 road win over Punxsutawney on Saturday as the Eagles moved to within one win of .500 with the district playoff cut looming.

It was the second straight game that the Eagles (8-9) held an opponent under 56 points, as BEA’s defense held the Chucks to 20 second-half points.

“We had a nice balance of scoring and defense, but I’d have to say that we’ve made some improvement on the defensive side,” BEA coach Bill Butterworth said. “Our opponents were averaging about 70 points until the last two ballgames.”

Brandon Gettig and A.J. Onder each contributed 13 points for the Eagles, who will travel to Clearfield on Tuesday. Noah Chambers also added nine for BEA.

Dillon Huey led the Chucks (7-10) with 15 points.
