Mikaela McGraw drove the lane with 24 seconds left and scored to lift Central over Penns Valley 55-53 in a Mountain League girls’ basketball game on Thursday.
“I’m really proud of how my kids played,” Lady Rams coach Karen McCaffrey said. “It was a very physical game. I think the difference really came down to foul shooting. We missed 20 so that left a lot of points on the floor.”
Penns Valley was 21-of-41 from the foul line and after scoring just four points in the first quarter, it rallied to get within 24-20 at the half.
Cheyenne Swartz led the Lady Rams with 13 points and McCaffrey felt it was Swartz’s best game.
“Cheyenne Swartz played just as hard of a game as she has played all year both offensively and defensively,” McCaffrey said.
Mackenzie Ironside also scored in double figures for Penns Valley with 11 points. Bethany Miller’s eight rebounds and Karli Ripka’s six steals led the Lady Rams in both categories, respectively.
McGraw finished with a game-high 19 points. The Lady Dragons also got double digit scoring from Hanna Johnston’s 14.
