Bald Eagle Area’s Brandon Gettig scored 20 points to surpass the 1,000-point mark for his basketball career Friday night, but the Eagles came up short in a 78-75 loss to Tyrone.

“Brandon is a super kid to coach and does everything you ask of him,” BEA coach Bill Butterworth said.

Gettig, who now has 1,007 career points, and fellow senior Jason Jones carried Bald Eagle Area offensively on Senior Night. Jones finished with a game-high 31 points and 10 rebounds.

Tyrone came out hot from beyond the arc, hitting six 3-pointers in the first quarter to build a 20-11 lead. The Golden Eagles finished with 14 3-pointers.

Nathan Soellner, who hit five threes, led five Tyrone players in double figures with 23 points.

Bald Eagle Area (8-12) outscored Tyrone 28-9 in the third quarter to take a 10-point lead. But the Golden Eagles rallied to take a 76-75 lead with two minutes left and held on for the victory.

“My kids played a heck of a game,” Butterworth said.
