High school girls basketball: State College thumps Williamsport

Kyla Irwin scored a season-high 32 points and Casey Witter added a career-high 14 as hot-shooting State College hammered Williamsport 89-46 on Saturday.

The Lady Little Lions (14-6) raced to a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. They finished 33 for 65 shooting from the floor.

State College drained 10 3-pointers, including three each from Irwin and Witter, who was playing in her second game back from an injury that had her sidelined since mid-December. Jaylyn Shlton-Burleigh also scored 14 points, while Ali Treglia added 13.

“That’s just awesome,” said State College coach Bethany Irwin of her team’s quality and quantity of shots. “There have been games where we’ve only gotten 32 shots. I’ve been telling them we need to shoot more, but part of that has been cutting down our turnovers. We’re trying to focus on how we’re playing and not the scoreboard.”

Chloe Jennings had 23 for the Lady Millionaires.

State College hosts Altoona on Monday.
