Despite a solid pitching peformance from Hannah Shields, State College stranded nine runners on base on a cold, wet day and fell to Cedar Cliff 3-2 in five innings Thursday.
The Lady Little Lions (0-2) avoided defensive lapses that cost them a chance to win their season opener but were unable to generate much offense against Cedar Cliff pitcher Tiffany White despite getting runners on base.
“(Shields’) command was pretty good today,” State College coach Mike Harber said. “We just didn’t come up with timely hits. Cedar Cliff did a good job of getting hits with players in scoring position.”
Alyssa Shedlock continued her torrid start to the season with a solo home run in the first inning. She added two more hits and has five in the first two games.
