Tara Baney pitched a one-hitter to lead Bellefonte past Penns Valley 10-0 in six innings Friday.

Baney threw a complete game, striking out six and walking three to earn the win.

“Her rise and screwball were working well,” Bellefonte coach Fred Caldwell said.

The Lady Red Raiders jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by Jenna Ault’s two-run single. Bellefonte then added four runs in the second inning and ended the game on Ault’s two-run double in the sixth.

Ault went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and Sarah Menna went 3 for 4 and scored three runs for the Lady Red Raiders.

Harley Hess recorded Penns Valley’s lone hit in the first inning, but she was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double.

“You never know how they’re going to play the first time out,” Caldwell said. “They played very well and I’m very proud of them.”
