High school softball: Penns Valley pulls away from Clearfield

A big fourth inning lifted Penns Valley to a 7-2 win over Clearfield on Tuesday.

The Lady Rams (2-4) used a six-run fourth, helped by doubles from Mikenna Lyons and Liz Brooks and a suicide squeeze converted by Alicia Houser. In all, Penns Valley sent 10 batters to the plate during the inning.

Brooks finished with a pair of doubles to back Abby Thom, who allowed five hits and no walks with four strikeouts in the complete-game win.

“Abby pitched a great game,” coach Don Lucas said. “She got 12 groundouts and we played errorless ball. So between her keeping the ball low and out defense and hitting, we played a complete game. You usually win games that way.”
