High school boys’ volleyball: State College falls to Ambridge in Koller Classic

The State College boys’ volleyball team managed to finish second in its pool and earn a bye in the playoffs on Saturdya, but fell in the second round to Ambridge at the Koller Classic at Central York High School.

“Our pool was pretty competitive,” Little Lions coach Kim-le Kimmel said. “We had to compete all day long and were please to come out second. However on the day, we need to control our errors that is what is knocking us out of tournaments. We need to turn this around quickly as we host our tournament next week.”

Kimmel noted that State College had 13 errors in its 25-22 loss to Ambridge which eliminated the Little Lions.

State College went 4-4 in pool play with wins over Derry, Central York and Emmaus. Kimmel felt her seniors helped the Little Lions on Saturday. State College was led by John Weakland’s 27 kills, while Tyler Snyder added 23 and Peyton Stark had 11.

“Tyler (Snyder) and Peyton (Stark) really showed some leadership,” Kimmel said. “They both really had really good days.”

Snyder led State College with five aces, tallied 23 kills and also added 22 digs. Stark had 11 kills and four blocks.

The Little Lions, who next play Tuesday at Carlisle, were led by John Weakland in kills with 27 and blocks with six, Noah Christie in digs 27 and Brandon Kuruzovich gave out 69 assists.
