State College duo Nick Vanden and Dan Shull advanced to the District 6 Class AAA doubles championship with wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals Friday.
Vanden and Shull, the No. 2 seed, will face top-seeded pair Chad Allender and Ryan Good of Altoona in the championship match Saturday at 10 a.m. at Altoona’s Leopold Center.
Vanden and Shull earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mifflin County’s Matt DeBenedetto and Will Fox in the quarterfinals and beat Hollidaysburg’s Josh Cobler and Emre Cardakali 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Altoona’s Allender and Good won 6-0, 6-0 over Central Mountain’s Ryan Moore and Kline Williams in the quarterfinals. The top-seeded duo then won 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 over Hollidaysburg’s Max Sheetz and Eric Miller in the semifinals.
State College’s Matt Bristol and Lucas Forest beat Mifflin County’s Noah Fisher and Nate Koller in the Round of 16 before falling to Sheetz and Miller 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
