The State College baseball team will take its next step toward a state championship on Thursday.
The Little Lions (19-5) will meet Shaler (19-5) in the PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at First Commonwealth Field near Homer City.
The Titans, the third-place team from District 7 in the Pittsburgh area, upended district champion Pittsburgh Central Catholic 3-1 in the PIAA first round on Monday. State College dropped District 7 runner-up Norwin 4-3 in 10 innings Monday.
A win for the Little Lions on Thursday would leave them just one more win away from a berth in the state title game at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park next week.
