High school softball: Philipsburg-Osceola’s Showers and Bainey, State College’s Shedlock named first-team all-state

Five Philipsburg Osceola softball players were named to the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association Class AA all-state teams on Friday.

Abby Showers and Megan Bainey led the Lady Mounties with first-team honors.

Joining Showers and Bainey as an All-State first teamer was State College junior Alyssa Shedlock for the Class AAAA team.

Showers, who played shortstop, finished her season with 28 runs scored, 31 hits and a .534 batting average. Earlier this year, the senior was named a District 6 and Progressland first-team All-Star. She was a second team all-star in the Mountain League.

Bainey was named a first-team outfielder. The senior had a .406 batting average with 31 runs scored and 26 hits. She was also a Distrct 6 and Mountain League All-Star.

Shedlock was awarded as an outfielder. During the season, she scored 22 runs and tallied 37 hits with a .500 batting average.

Second Team All-State members included pitcher Maggie Peck and first basemen Kenzie Burge for the Lady Mounties. Both were District 6 and Mountain League All-Stars. Haylee Hayward was an honorable mention for her work at third base.

Haley Giedroc was the lone Bald Eagle Area player to be recognized. Giedroc was named an honorable mention at shortstop. She finished the season with 27 runs scored and 30 hits.
