High school girls golf: State College’s Stewart captures district title

State College’s Ashley Stewart captured the District 6 Class AAA girls’ golf championship and helped the Lady Little Lions to the team title on Thursday at Summit Country Club.

Stewart finished with a two-day score of 176, beating teammate Emma Schaper and Central Mountain’s Alexis Anastos, who tied for second with 185 totals. Stewart qualified for the PIAA West Regional Championship, set for Monday at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville.

State College had a team score of 774 to beat Bellefonte (847) and Hollidaysburg (882).

Amber Kustaborder (sixth, 204), Kristen Nodell (seventh, 209) and Acadia Wilkins (10th, 220) rounded out the Lady Little Lion competitors.

For Bellefonte, Emily Sinclair took fourth (186), Kady Stodter was fifth (201), Cassandra Vogel finished 12th (228) and Paige Urban was 14th (232).

State College advanced to the District 6-9-10 subregional at Treasure Lake Golf Resort in DuBois on Friday.

In Class AA, Philipsburg-Osceola’s Halle Herrington finished ninth (208), Julia Burns took 10th (209) and Lacey Potter was 18th (230). St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy’s Anna Aiello tied for 15th (228), and Penns Valley’s Olivia Miller placed 24th (257).

Central Cambria’s Lauren Stevens was the individual champion with a score of 175.

Forest Hills won the team title with a score of 803, beating Penn Cambria (890).
