Penns Valley wrapped up an undefeated regular season with two more wins and a Mountain League title after beating Tyrone 20-35 and Central 17-38 Thursday.
Chris Colwell led three Rams among the top four runners and five scoring runners among the top eight to lead to the victories. Colwell turned in a time of 16 minutes, 51 second over the 5-kilometer course. Teammate Keith Griffith was second, four second behind, while Mark Bierly was fourth, Sammy Gray placed seventh and Charlie Romig captured eighth.
“The boys ran with purpose and intent, all posting personal-best times,” coach Terry Glunt said. “It was a fun race to watch because the guys were forced to run their ‘A’ race to win and secure the Mountain League Championship and an undefeated season. Again, the tightness of the pack impressed me, since it was just 58 seconds between our (No.) 1 and 5 guys.”
Penns Valley, which repeated as the regular-season champion, will look to finish the conference season sweep when it hosts the Mountain League Championships on Wednesday.
