High School girls’ tennis: State College sees season come to end

No. 4 seed Mifflin County pulled off a 3-2 upset of No. 2 State College in the District 6 Class AAA team tournament on Monday.

The Lady Little Lions’ lone victories came from Kelly Vanden and Laura Guay in singles. Vanden had a 7-6 (7), 6-3 win, while Guay went 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1. The Huskies took the other singles match and swept the two doubles matches for the win.

“The girls had a very good season,” State College coach Jane Borden said. “They were not afraid to represent State High, play hard at every match, and competed to the best of their ability all season long. The girls should be proud of what they accomplished this season.”

State College finishes the season 9-7.
