Baney’s no-hitter for Bellefonte stymies Lady Rams
Tara Baney just missed pitching a perfect game Thursday afternoon as the Bellefonte softball team blanked Penns Valley 11-0.
Baney struck out 12, didn’t walk anyone and hit one batter in a no-hitter for the Lady Red Raiders.
She also helped herself with a huge day at the plate, clubbing a two-run home run into the wind to center field, as well as a triple and double, as Bellefonte rolled up a dozen hits as a team.
Angela Capparelle also had strong day with the bat, collecting a single, double and triple. Rianna Trexler added a single and double, and Alexis Wetzler also had a pair of hits.
“I think that our team played very well for this early in the season and it was truly a team effort,” Bellefonte coach Fred Caldwell said. “Tara did an excellent job in the circle and had command of all of her pitches and we did a good job of being patient at the plate. (The Lady Rams’) Harley Hess is an outstanding pitcher and I think that our hitters adjusted well after the first time through the lineup. Hitting is contagious and once a couple of girls started making solid contact the rest of the team followed. Penns Valley is always a challenge and we’re happy to be able to play well today and come away with the win.”
