State College erupted for five runs in the top of the ninth inning as the Spikes salvaged the final game of a three-game series with a 7-2 victory over Batavia in New York-Penn League baseball action Sunday.
With the score tied at 2-2 entering the final frame, State College (7-6) sent 10 batters to the plate against the Muckdogs (6-6).
Carson Kelly started the outburst by drawing a walk against Batavia reliever Roberto Ravago, who entered the contest in the ninth. Adam Lewis followed with a single and both baserunners advanced to scoring position on Matthew Young’s sacrifice bunt.
Steven Ramos plated Carson and Lewis by belting a double to left. Jimmy Bosco followed with an RBI single to left to make the score 5-3. Bosco advanced to third as Ravago threw wild on a pickoff attempt. Bosco trotted home on Cesar Valera’s single to left.

Valera was caught stealing second, but the Spikes continued against a wild Ravago. Bruce Caldwell walked and David Washington was hit by a pitch. Mason Katz capped the outburst with an RBI single to left.
The uprising made a winner of Kyle Webb, who pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless innings of relief after following starter Chris Perry. Webb allowed two hits, struck out three and walked one as he lowered his ERA to 1.23. Mitch Harris got three consecutive groundouts in the ninth to close out the win.
The Spikes took a 1-0 lead in the second as Katz doubled and scored on Lewis’ double.
Batavia, which swept a doubleheader with the Spikes on Saturday, bounced back in the third to take the lead on Ryan Aper’s two-run double. State College got even in the sixth as Valera tripled to center field and scored on Caldwell’s sacrifice fly.
Valera, Katz, Lewis an Young each had a pair of hits to pace State College’s 11-hit attack. J.T. Riddle had two doubles for the Muckdogs.
Perry allowed three hits and two runs over 5 1/3 innings. Perry walked two and struck out five and still has a sparkling 1.65 ERA.
Spikes manager Oliver Marmol was ejected for arguing with homeplate umpire Brennan Miller in the sixth.
State College plays at Williamsport on Monday and will return to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Tuesday. Kevin Herget (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will start against the Crosscutters on Monday.
