There is a new fried chicken joint in State College.

Fried chicken lovers could get their first taste of My My Chicken when it opens Friday.

Patrick Donaghy and Paul Madrid, business partners who opened Paul’s Provisions Catering, worked together to open the takeout restaurant at 536 Westerly Parkway.

“What we’re opening here is southern fried chicken and also Korean fried chicken,” Donaghy, My My Chicken’s director of operations, said. “The southern fried chicken is a pressure-fried style of chicken. The “my my chicken” is Korean-style rice-floured, twice-fried chicken. We also do a few different sauces for the my my chicken.”

The pair feels that My My Chicken will bring a different taste to State College.

The best way to order is to call well ahead of time and to schedule a pick-up.

“We’ve lost many of the places that were here that you could get fresh, fried chicken, so we’ll be unique here,” Donaghy said. “There aren’t any outlets for fresh, fried chicken.”

Donaghy said the focus of their 2,600-square-foot space — which also houses the catering business — will be on made-to-order, fresh products. The eatery does not have seating or delivery.

“It’s really important for us that people understand that we are phone order and takeout,” Donaghy said. “The best way to order is to call well ahead of time and to schedule a pick-up. Nothing is under a heat lamp. If we are already engaged in 15 orders of fried chicken we need to finish those first, so there is the time component.”

An example, he said, would be to place an order at about 3:30 p.m. or 4 p.m. for a 5:30 p.m. pick-up.

Donaghy, who owned Centre County Catering, combined forces with Madrid, who moved to the State College area from Washington, D.C. Donaghy will run the front side of My My Chicken, and Madrid will run the kitchen.

“He’s an excellent chef who part-owns two restaurants in D.C., so he brings a lot of experience with him,” Donaghy said. “It’s not a difficult switch for me. I’ve worked the front and back of places over the course of my career. It’s been a pretty natural transition.”

The catering business employs about 20 people, and My My Chicken, which can be reached at 954-8153, will employ another 10 to 15 people.
